It seems that, in some bistros and restaurants, the wine lists only continues to grow. While the wines of Bordeaux, Tuscany and Napa Valley always transport us to the heavenly vineyards and the flavors of the earth, most of us miss the experience of the ‘world down under’.  Here are some award-winning wines to experiment with.

Wynns Coonawarra Estate 2008, Cabernet Sauvignon, South Australia
The lush orange earth used to produce this unique wine has titled Wynn as a vineyard pioneer in South Australia. Its bottle age renders an intense fruit experience that is fragrant and complex, and it’s filled with aromas of coffee, spice and pencil lead.

C. Pannell Adelaide Hills 2013, Syrah
This family owned winery recently won the Jimmy Watson Trophy for its 2013 Syrah. Sourced 410 metres above sea level, the fruit in this region grows on granitic soil, making it juicy, elegant with deep flavor.

Bay of Fires, 2013, Pinot Noir Chardonnay
Winner of the Francois de Castella Trophy for Best Young White Wine, this Pinot Noir Chardonnay is a sparkling white rich in citrus flavor and hints of delicate sherbet.

Granite Hills Riesling 2013, 2008 & 2004, Macedon Ranges VIC
A new release, this complex 2013 Riesling is the result of the winery’s 40 year-old vines, having just won the Victorian Trophy for Wines of Provenance. It is the vineyard’s 38th consecutive vintage of this wine and is recognized as one of Australia’s finest thanks to the high altitude, cool night temperatures and the rich, granite soils.
